Kara Engebretson Bio:

Kara has been with PrairieCare as a pediatric therapist for two years and with PrairieCare for four years.  Kara received her Master of Social Work Degree from St. Cloud State University in 2015. During that time she interned with Crow River Family Services for 2 years and joined them for the last three years working with families, adolescents, and children in the home with trauma, anxiety, depression, ADHD, and Autism Spectrum Disorder providing therapy, parental guidance, skills and developing a group providing creative, therapeutic, experiential skills training for children and adolescents through a gardening program called DiRt group.

Kara has worked at Washburn Center for Children as a Children’s Mental Health Case Manager and Therapist the past three years specializing in finding resources for families, coordinating care, and treating families and individuals with ADHD, Anxiety, and Depression. Kara specializes in working with children, adolescents, and families through building their relationships while learning new parental skills. She uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy while focusing on the family’s and individual’s strengths to help clients with social, emotional, and behavioral concerns. Kara is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), which has been helpful in treating clients with trauma, anxiety, and depression.

Kara is dedicated to an integrative mental health model encompassing physical health as she brings experience from working with a medical team while working at PriairieCare inpatient hospital for the past four years. Throughout her experience within her jobs she has worked collaboratively with other health care professionals to provide overall care for clients.

Ashley Crist Bio:

Ashley has been with PrairieCare for 2 years as a Pediatric Therapist. Ashley received her Master of Social Work degree from Augsburg College in 2011. She has 5 years clinical experience with the school system, 4 of which were spent as a school-based therapist. Her additional 3 years of clinical experience was working with adults in Chicago ensuring adequate supports and collaboration with community, mental health and primary providers. Ashley utilizes the following in her practice: play therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focused therapy, and mindfulness. She often utilizes a strengths-based perspective in working with children and families to empower them based on current strengths and really meet clients where they are at.

Ashley has experience with youth of all ages, as well as adults and family. She also has experience working with children who have experienced trauma, challenges with interpersonal skills, grief, family change, anxiety, depression, opposition/conduct concerns, and ADHD. Ashley loves working with children and adolescents and is very excited to collaborate with primary care providers in addressing challenges and providing opportunities for growth. She believes that providing appropriate client-centered care with children includes working with multidisciplinary teams with a holistic approach.
